BONGANI BRUCE MAFULELA

I am a recent graduate from Thompson Rivers University, located in Kamloops British Columbia. While I was in my studies I completed my Bachelors in Business Administration with a double major in Accounting and Finance. I enjoy traveling and meeting new people, and I absolutely love playing sports, and I have been blessed with a God given talent in that area. From golfing to cricket, tennis, rugby, swimming the list goes on; each discipline has instilled different values in my life today, that even drive me today. I always like to challenge myself so I am constantly looking to do things that will challenge me both physically and intellectually.

 

Throughout my time at Thompson Rivers University, I  had the opportunity to take part in many projects and company type simulations, from the accounting side. I was involved in a simulation with my classmates where we were put in small groups and competed against each other managing a shoe company, putting all our accounting knowledge to the sword and actually applying it. From formulating our own strategies to building budgets and forecasted financial statements, which incorporated best and worst case scenarios, as well as manipulating our earnings. The added bonus to this class was that, as different groups we constantly do presentations to defend both our position and decisions to stakeholders and investors (other classmates).

 

From my Finance classes, I got the opportunity to run my own portfolio, as well as running our own bank with other classmates and managed to get it bankrupt in the first two weeks of operations. The knowledge and lessons learnt from these two classes I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Key lessons learnt were that, banks make money with their spreads and not to sell yourself short, and that you should never get to comfortable, each day in life has a lesson of its own to be learnt and there will come an opportunity to apply it one day, and last but not least to over trade your portfolio investments, learn to trust your gut sometimes.

 

For my extracurricular activities I was a part of the award winning Enactus Thompon Rivers University team, where I was part of a Consulting program, assisting entrepreneurs with the challenges they face with their businesses along side faculty advisors. And my last activity was with FOCUS club where I was the club treasurer.

 

Some of the qualities I posses, I am a light hearted individual with a warm sense of humor and I love getting to know people, because I a firm believer there is always a lesson you can learn from someone’s experiences, all you have to do is to take the time to listen.

 

I believe my background education has paved the way for me to achieve my career goals that I have set out for myself, and I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time in your day to look at my portfolio.
